Tragic Accident Involving Driverless Car in San Francisco Raises Safety Concerns
A pedestrian in downtown San Francisco was critically injured Monday night after being struck by a human-driven vehicle and then trapped under a Cruise autonomous vehicle. The driver of the human-driven vehicle fled. Cruise spokesperson Navideh Forghani said the AV braked aggressively to minimize impact. Firefighters used the jaws of life to free the victim, who has life-threatening injuries. The incident raises safety concerns about autonomous vehicles. Cruise is cooperating with the San Francisco Police Department investigation. Earlier, Cruise faced controversy including traffic jams and collisions.
