Maldives, South Sudan Establish Diplomatic Relations
The Maldives and South Sudan officially established diplomatic relations on May 4, 2023, through a Joint Communique signed by their UN Permanent Representatives Thilmeeza Hussain and Akuei Bona Malwal. The Maldives has recently signed visa exemption agreements with Burundi, Oman, Cambodia, and Rwanda, and held policy talks with Japan. The Maldives also joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a Dialogue Partner. It maintains diplomatic ties with 172 nations and has 17 resident missions.
