Pre-Election Statement
Transparency Maldives reports that campaigning for the upcoming presidential elections has been generally free and peaceful, but sporadic cases of violence, disruptions, vote buying, and misuse of public resources have been reported. They are the only independent organization conducting extensive and systematic monitoring, with over 400 observers across all 20 atolls. The observation uses random sampling. Two press conferences will be held on election day at Traders Hotel: first at 1pm on opening of polls, second at 8pm on overall processes.
