Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer met with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting in Kampala, Uganda. They discussed the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from the Maldives, acceleration of Indian development projects in the Maldives, and broader regional cooperation under SAARC and NAM. The meeting comes amid challenges from derogatory social media posts by Maldivian deputy ministers towards India, which led to their suspension. The Maldives seeks to balance national sovereignty with maintaining close ties with India.

Foreign Affairs Minister Moosa Zameer addressed the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Uganda on 17 January 2024. He expressed solidarity with Palestinians, urged NAM to adapt to a globalised world, overhaul working methods, and lead UN reforms. NAM was established in 1961 with 120 members; Maldives joined in 1976.
