PNC schedules constituency elections for 11 July ahead of...
The People's National Congress (PNC) has announced internal elections for constituency-level positions on 11 July, ahead of the party's senate scheduled for September. Speaker of Parliament and MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, stated at a press conference on Monday that the party's senate will convene from 15 to 18 September. A 13-member task force has been formed to oversee preparations. Nominations are open until 30 June for positions including constituency president, vice president, women's wing president, youth wing president, and steering committee president. Only PNC members registered by Monday are eligible to contest. Voting rights are limited to members in the party's registry as of that date. Constituency presidents will only be elected in constituencies not represented by a PNC MP; in constituencies with a PNC MP, the MP automatically serves as constituency president. The party's regulations allow leadership to remove constituency presidents for violations.
