Gov’t to introduce community tourism empowerment model

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation is developing a community tourism empowerment model to increase public participation. An MoU signed with UNFPA Maldives will introduce a People-Centered Community Tourism Empowerment Model. A pilot programme will be implemented in four Baa Atoll islands: Dharavandhoo, Dhonfanu, Kihaadhoo, and Kudarikilu, targeting women, youth, and senior citizens for inclusive family-based tourism. The model focuses on community needs and perspectives, with the first phase involving mapping to support capacity building and productivity development.
