Bad weather, Yellow Alert from Baa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issued a Yellow Alert from Baa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll due to thunderstorms and rainfall. Gusts of 40 mph and rough seas are expected. The alert was issued at 12:45pm and will last until 5:00pm. Squalls are forecast across the Maldives for the next 24 hours. The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) is working to drain flooding caused by rain on roads in Male'.

Gov’t to introduce community tourism empowerment model

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation is developing a community tourism empowerment model to increase public participation. Nelivaru Finolhu, Huraa Faru in Baa Atoll Receive Protected Status

Heavy Rains, Floods Inundate Islands in North

Heavy rains and unprecedented floods have inundated northern islands in the Maldives. The MNDF reported flooding in Dhidhdhoo (Haa Alifu Atoll) and Finey (Haa Dhaalu Atoll), and is using pumps to drain waters in Kulhudhuffushi Island. The MMS issued a White Alert for Heavy Rain and Flooding for atolls from Haa Alifu to Baa, indicating expected rainfall exceeding 50 mm in one hour or 80 mm in six hours. Winds of 8-18 mph are forecast in central/southern regions, and 3-10 mph in the north. Seas are expected to be moderately rough.
