Ex-Supreme Court Justice Alleges Government Attempting to Control Court in UN Complaint

Former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood filed a complaint with the UN Human Rights Office accusing the government of threatening judges to control the Supreme Court. He alleged President Mohamed Muizzu and Attorney General Ahmed Usham pressured judges to block a case challenging a constitutional amendment that allows disqualification of MPs. Suood said he and Justices Mahaz Ali and Aishath Azmiralda Zahir were suspended to prevent hearing the case. The Judicial Service Commission suspended them due to ACC investigations, and also investigates disciplinary complaints against two justices. Suood argued the JSC is used as a political tool. He requested the UN to lift suspensions.
