UK Announces New Electronic Travel Authorisation Requirement for Maldivians
The UK government announced new immigration rules requiring Maldivians to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for entry. From 27 November 2024, Maldivians can apply for the ETA, which costs £10 and is valid for two years for multiple stays up to six months. From 8 January 2025, entry requires prior authorisation. By 2 April 2025, all travellers except UK and Irish citizens will need an ETA. Previously, Maldivians had visa-on-arrival access. The measures aim to digitise border security and prevent immigration abuse.
