Strong Winds Rip Off Roofs, Down Trees in Addu and Fuvahmulah

Strong winds ripped off roofs of at least three houses and downed trees in Addu and Fuvahmulah cities. The Maldives Meteorological Service attributed the weather to the rainy season and issued a yellow alert until 11 p.m. Sunday, warning of strong winds, heavy rains, and rough seas. In Addu City, a roof was blown off on Maradhoo-Feydhoo Island. In Fuvahmulah City, two houses lost roofs in the Dhiguvaadu Ward, and billboards were damaged. Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar confirmed damage and said authorities are assisting. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Addu City Council are providing support. The Met Office warned of winds gusting up to 34 mph. The National Disaster Management Authority advised residents to secure roofs and items.

Government to Assist in Addu Tourism Development Funding

Minister for Tourism Ibrahim Faisal announced that funding for tourism development in Addu City will begin soon after meeting with stakeholders. It also includes a cultural village, wellness zones, marine protected areas, and a hospitality school, with the goal of promoting tourism and showcasing Addu's heritage.
