Singaporean Dies After Being Struck by Boat Propeller

Sri Lankan Woman Charged With Infanticide in Maldives

Hiranya Kumudumali de Alwis, a 30-year-old Sri Lankan woman, was charged with infanticide after her newborn baby was found dead in a garbage dump in Dhigurah, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. Charges include murder, endangering child, and concealing death. The infant was found on 3 December in a plastic bag. Alwis worked at a guesthouse, concealed pregnancy, and was apprehended at Velana International Airport. She faces over 28 years in prison.
