One suspect released in case involving use of minors for drug trafficking

One of two individuals arrested in GA. Vilingili for allegedly using minors to traffic drugs has been released. The arrests were made during a joint operation by Gaafu Alif Vilingili Police and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence on May 28, 2026. Four houses were searched, and 66.92 grams of suspected narcotics were seized. The arrested were Mohamed Athoof Habeeb, 25, and Mohamed Raif Hussain, 20. Athoof was remanded for 15 days and later ordered to remain in custody until trial. Raif was remanded for 10 days but the court declined to extend his detention, releasing him under conditions. The operation was conducted under recent amendments to the Narcotic Drugs Act and the Child Rights Protection Act.

Use of minors in drug trade: One suspect jailed pending trial’s outcome, other released

One of two people arrested from GA. Vilingili in May on suspicion of using minors to peddle drugs has been jailed pending trial, while the other was released. Mohamed Athoof Habeeb, 25, and Mohamed Raif Hussain, 20, were arrested on May 28 in a joint operation by Vilingili Police and Counter-Narcotics targeting those who recruit minors in drug crimes. Athoof was remanded pending trial, Raif granted conditional release. Police believe they are ringleaders of a drug network in Vilingili. Raids seized 66.92 grams of drugs including brown sugar and methamphetamine.
