Ballot box vandalism and theft: No revotes in Feeali and Fiyoaree

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced it will not hold revotes in F. Feeali and GDh. Fiyoaree after ballot box theft and vandalism during the chairperson election. The ballot box in Feeali was stolen and taken to a private residence, while the box in Fiyoaree was vandalized by an individual lacking accreditation. MDP Elections Committee chairperson Ibrahim Muizzu confirmed the decision, citing a large victory margin. Former president Mohamed Nasheed won with 21,301 votes (68.9%), defeating Meekail Ahmed Naseem (9,462 votes) and Ibrahim Mohamed (132). This is Nasheed's second term as MDP chairperson.

MDP election: Fiyoaree ballot box destroyed, Feeali ballot box taken to hub

During MDP's Chairperson Election, unrest at GDh. Fiyoaree led to a ballot box being destroyed after an ineligible voter tried to cast a ballot. At F. Feeali, a ballot box was taken by an individual to the MDP hub after disagreements over representative recognition. Voting at Feeali was halted. The National Election Complaints Bureau is investigating whether to hold a revote. Former President Mohamed Nasheed resigned from MDP to form The Democrats. The current chairperson election is between South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, supported by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and another candidate.
