Sentencing breakdown revealed in newborn murder case involving grandmother, her partner and biological father
A woman, her boyfriend, and a third man have been sentenced to prison for the murder of a newborn infant. The three were convicted in connection with the killing, but the Criminal Court had not released any details until now. The prosecution charged all three with the murder of an infant born in 2019. The defendants are Aishath Shaira, Mohamed Imthiyaz, and Moosa Ahsam. Moosa Ahsam was charged with intentional homicide, while Shaira and Imthiyaz were charged with participating in intentional homicide. Shaira also faced an additional charge of knowingly failing to report the sexual assault of a child. All three were convicted, with the court establishing the case through Moosa Ahsam's confessions. Shaira, the grandmother of the murdered infant, was sentenced to six months for failing to report the sexual assault. According to case information, Moosa Ahsam sexually assaulted Shaira’s daughter, who was under 18 at the time. Shaira received an additional two years and six months for participating in the murder. Moosa Ahsam was sentenced to five years for intentional homicide; after deducting remand time, his remaining sentence is three years and seven months. Mohamed Imthiyaz was sentenced to two years and six months for participating in the murder.
