Government plans to launch a comprehensive national masterplan to reduce thalassemia cases. Efforts began in 1994 with National Thalassemia Centre, but lack of development over 30 years raised concerns. The Thalassaemia Control Bill ratified in 2012 has not been strongly implemented. The law mandates public awareness, sustainable treatment, a special fund, and family planning for carriers. Since 2015, bone marrow transplants have been supported by Zakat Fund.
