Man in Nolhivaram who tried to pay police to dispose of drugs receives two‑year jail sentence

A man in Nolhivaram, Ahmed Ziran, was sentenced to two years, four months and 24 days in jail for offering a bribe to police officers. The incident occurred in March when Ziran arrived on a speedboat and was stopped by police for suspicious behavior. He admitted to discarding drugs and offered to pay the officers to dispose of them. He pleaded guilty and requested the minimum sentence. After deducting 15 days in remand, he will serve two years, four months and nine days. The verdict was delivered on Monday, June 19, 2026.

ATM services established in all inhabited islands of H.Dh. Atoll

Bank of Maldives (BML) has established ATM services in all inhabited islands of H.Dh. Atoll. The target was achieved during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to the atoll. ATMs were inaugurated in Finey, Hanimaadhoo, Naivaadhoo, Nellaidhoo, Nolhivaram, Nolhivaranfaru, Vaikaradhoo, Neykurendhoo, Kurinbee, and Kumundhoo. The inauguration ceremonies were attended by President Muizzu, Ministers, BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, BML CEO Mohamed Shareef, and senior bank officials. The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade signed an agreement with BML to install ATMs in all islands of Maldives under the government's policy to ensure financial inclusion across all inhabited islands.

Nishama’s body sent abroad for postmortem 10 days after death

The body of Nishama Mohamed, 28, found dead under suspicious circumstances in HDh. Nolhivaram, was sent abroad for postmortem 10 days after death. She was discovered dead on December 10th. Her husband, Aboobakuru Faisal, was arrested but found hanging in a police cell on December 12th and later died. Police assured the investigation will proceed. Nishama is survived by three young children.

A week to Nishama’s death, body yet to be flown abroad for postmortem

A week after Nishama Mohamed's death, her body had yet to be flown abroad for postmortem. Police confirmed they are undertaking necessary efforts. Nishama's father stated he was against postmortem. Nishama was found dead on December 10th. Her husband Aboobakuru Faisal was arrested but found hanging in a police cell on December 12th and later died. Police suspect Faisal's involvement in Nishama's death. Nishama is survived by three children.
