A Maldivian national, Muawiath Moosa, a resident of Thimarafushi Island in Thaa Atoll, was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand. India Denies Maldives’ Allegations of Unauthorised Helicopter Operation

India denied Maldivian Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon's allegations that an Indian helicopter operated without permits and landed in Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll. The Indian High Commission said the emergency landing on 9 October 2019 was due to exigencies and properly authorized. The controversy emerged during a press conference on 11 May. Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy acknowledged the incident but called it isolated. The Maldives government later replaced Indian military personnel with civilian experts from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. India reiterated all operations are with proper authorisation.
