National ID Card issuance launched in Hulhumale’ and Villimale’

Printing and issuance of national identity cards has been launched in Hulhumale' and Villimale'. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the project on 16 November. The initiative aims to provide ID card and passport services directly from residents' localities. Services are now operational in three locations: Hulhumale' Phase 1 (Umar Zahir Building), Hulhumale' Phase 2 (Vinares Tower 2), and Villimale' (E Block). Additionally, 174 collection centres have been established across islands. The government aims to extend the service to all inhabited islands by next year.

Road development studies concludes in Male’ and Vilimale’

The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure revealed that the assessment of road conditions in Male' City and Villimale' has concluded. The assessments were conducted by an expert team appointed by the Chinese government, following an agreement signed on July 23 during the Maldivian President's official visit to China. The road development will be funded through Chinese government grants, including paving roads and enhancing water, sewerage, electrical infrastructure, storm water management, and fire hydrants. Assessments began on November 5. The next phase is the designing stage. The government anticipates completing the project within three or four years.

President inaugurates nationwide initiative to expand ID Card and passport services

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated a nationwide initiative to expand ID card and passport services beyond the capital. The project aims to decentralize issuance, with completion targeted by next year. In the first phase, passport services will be introduced in Hulhumale' Phase I and II, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, and L. Fonadhoo, while ID card services will be available in Hulhumale' Phase I and II, Villimale', and Kulhudhufushi City. The NARES portal, launched in July, streamlines ID card applications through island councils.

STELCO to establish a 150MW power plant

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) signed an MoU with Chinese company TBEA Group to conduct preliminary studies for establishing a 150MW dual-fuel power plant in Thilafushi. The plant will use oil and gas. A high-capacity transmission line will be installed along the Thila Male' Bridge to meet energy demands in Male' City, Hulhumale', Villimale', Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi. STELCO Managing Director Fahmy said the agreement is a significant step to enhance energy infrastructure.

Muhyiddin School in Villimale held a STEM fair 'Genius Gems' on Saturday and Sunday, featuring projects from all grades. Council asked to pay MVR 300K over Villimale market

The Civil Court ordered the Male City Council to pay MVR 364,965 to Glorious Trading and Shipping for work done outside the contract for a temporary market in Villimale. The project was awarded on February 2, 2022, for MVR 2.5 million, to be completed in 45 days. The company sued for over MVR 1 million, citing delays and additional work due to council changes. The court ruled only the amount for extra work was payable, as other claims lacked evidence. The land for the market changed three times.

Government Launches Social Service Centre

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established a social service centre in Villimale' and brought changes to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.
